u ever think about jiang cheng having enough trust in wei wuxian to walk up a mountain blindfolded only to be betrayed in a way so internal and inescapable that learning about it sends him spiraling nearly two decades later. he lost everything in the world except what couldn’t physically leave. he has jin ling and wwx’s core and they’re both necessary and he couldn’t have had either of them without losing his siblings. he would prefer his siblings. he can’t have a conversation with wwx but he can never escape him how can he deal with that. doesn’t it feel dirty. imagine thinking your brother thinks he’s so worthless you would prefer taking the most important thing from him than to not have it. imagine him beating u at everything always and when u finally get ground it turns out it’s not even you. its still him. in giving up his core wwx gave up the possibility of staying in jiang chengs life even before the wen remnants entered the picture. congratulations to jiang cheng! u have his core but u can never have him again

Came across a post on pinterest about peonies- how they bloom for 100 years and are thus used to symbolise happy and long marriages. And I can't stop thinking about how Wei Wuxian tossed these peonies at Lan Wangji during his first life.
And I'm also thinking about how Lan Wangji pressed one of those peonies into the notebook on which Wei wuxian transcribed the Lan clan rules, on the page which explains the significance of the Lan clan forehead ribbon...
And just like how peonies are said to bloom for a hundred years, Lan Wangji's love for Wei Wuxian never withered even after all those long years...
Edit: okay guys, I just saw an old post on tumblr about the audio drama. In the AD, when Wei Wuxian tosses peonies at Lan Wangji, the music that plays in the background is called 'silent confession'
...
Yeah.
The post is from @/xinyuenii in case anyone's wondering
#and the same can be said about wei wuxian too#i think#and i don't want to make it super cheesy but#i can't help but think that MAYBE wei wuxian knew what those flowers meant#i mean#he's super well versed at poetry and everything#and he also knew the significance of the orchid flower#granted that it might symbolize smth else in chinese#anyways#wangxian#mdzs#mo dao zu shi#wei wuxian#lan wangji#i love them#sm#my rambles

A flat-color commission of Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang! (Though technically this is set in an AU wherein they’ve never met and Huaisang was raised as a rogue cultivator, so I assume his family name actually isn’t Nie.... So, Nie Mingjue and ??? Huaisang, I suppose!)
I really like the pattern in Nie Mingjue’s robe! \o/
#the untamed#mo dao zu shi#mdzs#nie huaisang#nie mingjue#digital#bush pen#my art#I did wonder if giving Huaisang a fan as a rogue cultivator would be unfeasible#since it's sort of a symbol of being a gentleman and Huaisang isn't raised as one in this AU#but it just didn't seem right to not let him have one#maybe it's a battle fan that he uses in his night-hunts!

Another daemon in PIDW idea
Oh I got another PIDW daemon idea! It's a spinoff on my idea of Shen Jiu being Yue Qi's daemon (that impossibly takes on a human form.)
What if only people with cultivation talents have daemons? You can tell if a baby/child has potential to become a cultivator just by seeing if they have a daemon or not!
And to kill a child's cultivation potential, you murder their daemon...
That's a big reason why and how Shen Jiu takes on a human form. It's to keep Yue Qi safe; the mortal slavers who can't sense any qi don't realize Yue Qi has the potential to cultivate because they don't even know Yue Qi has a daemon much less kill Yue Qi's daemon.
I guess demonic cultivators who kill other cultivators to gain power can literally cook daemons and eat them for that power boost. Wu Yanzi may be a demonic cultivator who caught Shen Jiu the daemon (and knows that Shen Jiu is a daemon) but even he isn't so evil that he will eat human flesh.
Cultivators just naturally assume that the Cang Qiong Sect Leader Yue Qingyuan and Qing Jing peak lord Shen Jiu have daemons that they don't display publicly for the same safety reasons as many other cultivators do - if their daemon is assassinated, then they lose all their cultivation. As such famous public figures, they are subjected to more assassination attempts, some of which even come from the imperial courts! So yeah, no one blinks an eye. The Cang Qiong peak lords would see it as a symbol of their sect leader's lack of trust in them (well, that's how they see Shen Jiu's refusal to let his daemon out) if they weren't around for that time Yue Qingyuan had that huge mental breakdown about his daemon being missing - kidnapped? - a manor burning down, and a noble family with close ties to the imperial courts all being murdered except for a lone daughter. They think Yue Qingyuan is traumatized about his daemon, so they let it slide.

Wasn’t Jiang Cheng so bad at relationships that he was blacklisted by matchmakers, even though he is one of the most powerful and richest men in the setting?
That he was.
Three failed dates confirmed during Mo Dao Zu Shi's second anniversary (10 strange facts about Mo Dao Zu Shi) on MXTX's weibo
Transcribed:
English:
Jiang Cheng has been on three blind dates. Due to various reasons, he has been blacklisted by all female cultivators.
His requirements are: a natural beauty, gentle and obedient, thrifty, with a pristine family background, not too high in cultivation, not too strong in personality, not too talkative, not too loud, and doesn't spend ruthlessly. Be nice to Jin Ling.
This is expanded on as a short in the CN Audio Drama where his Aunt Yu tries to set him up with a lady cultivator and she leaves in anger not even a minute within 5 minutes of speaking with him.
Other noteworthy mentions of his stellar personality from the 2016 broadcast interview:
女主持:对,公屏上有一段刷过去了,就是江澄作为江氏的族长,他为什么这么多年都没有结婚呢?
Yes, there is some public discussions, as to why Jiang Cheng, as the head of the Jiang family, hasn't married even after so many years?
墨香铜臭:就性格比较差劲吧,谈了几个,吹了。
He just has a (n) 差劲 chà jìn (average/lame/disappointing, let down) temperament, he dated several times but they were all failures...
The third date is also spotlighted in a season 3 extra of the CN Audio Drama: Blind Date. ( You can find this on MissEvan as a purchase )
???: Incredible!
Jiang Cheng: You are?
Rong Yan: Anping Rong sect’s Rong Yan. Ah, it was Bomu Yu who brought me here. She had told me to come her to wait for her.
Jiang Cheng: Ah, so Jiumu is who brought you...
Rong Yan: Mn.
Jiang Cheng: Then please have a seat.
Rong Yan: Alright. Jiang-zongzhu , just now, the weapon you were wielding was Zidian? You were amazing! I’ve never seen anyone with such a magnificently and elegant mastery of a whip before!
Jiang Cheng: Ha, I’m alright with it.
Rong Yan:Jiang-zongzhu is being humble.
Jiang Cheng: The purple dress you are wearing is rather nice.
Rong Yan: Oh, really?
Jiang Cheng: It’s a shame however... If your skin was a bit paler, it would look even better.
Rong Yan: Eh…? I didn’t realize Jiang-zongzhu was so knowledgeable about fashion.
Jiang Cheng: Oh, I’m just making a casual observation. Mn? What’s that smell? Do you smell it?
Rong Yan: Ah, what?
Jiang Cheng: It smells like a mix of flower pollens. It’s like a poisonous gas. Eh? It seems like it’s coming from your direction--
Rong Yan: Ah, my clothes are often perfumed. You don't seem to be used to the scent, Jiang-zongzhu.
Jiang Cheng: Oh, so that’s why. You’re right, I’m not used to it.
Rong Yan: Uh…
Jiang Cheng: Eh?
Rong Yan: J-Jiang-Zongzhu, why are you looking at me like that?
Jiang Cheng: Are you feeling unwell?
Rong Yan: …Ah?
Jiang Cheng: Your face is white and red in splotches . Are you sick?
Rong Yan: I… This…! (In feigned patience) Thank you for your concern, Jiang-zongzhu. I’m fine.
Aunt Yu: Eh? I see that you two have already started conversing. Aiya, I seemed to have taken a wrong turn somewhere. Ah, have you two been properly introduced yet? Aiya, Jiang Cheng you haven't even offered Miss Rong some tea yet?!
Rong Yan: Thank you for your thoughtfulness, Bomu. But I won't be taking any tea. I’m not feeling too well. I’ll be taking my leave now. Good bye.
Aunt Yu: Eh? E-EH?! Miss Rong! Sigh Aiya… JIANG CHENG!!!!
JC: Jiumu.
Aunt Yu: Did you stick your foot in your mouth again?!
Jiang Cheng: Of course I didn’t. I spoke properly the whole time and gave her some suggestions. She didn't listen, not understanding what's good for her and left. Hmph, not even a thanks.
Aunt Yu: This is already the third time! Don’t you know there’s no one left who wants to matchmake for you?! Finally, there came a Miss Rong who was interested in you. She put on such make-up! She took this so seriously! I had such high hopes for this meeting! And in the end?! You angered and drove her away! Aiya, you’ll be the death of me! If you want to be like this, then just stay single forever!
Jiang Cheng: Hmph, as if I care!
#mo dao zu shi#mdzs#canon jiang cheng#has no charm whatsoever#also notice a pattern there with him telling people he doesn't care how he acts to others#and all that symbolism where he IS alone

Birthday wishes to Zewu-jun from Lanling

The Yiling Wei sect: their colours are red and black, their sect symbol is a blood red drop: for the guidao cultivation of their patriarch, for the medical cultivation they practise, for the tears and pain it took to be free. Both a petal from the lotus of the Jiang and a ray from the Wen sun, the blood drop symbolises the identity they forged together in the Burial Mounds.

Market based mistakes.
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#wen chao#wen zhuliu#Apologies for how much I skipped in the last part of this episode.#I do love the scene of Jiang Cheng regaining his will to live and the ensuing scenes of Wei Wuxian seeing him off at the mountain base.#At the same time I very much want to keep pressing on with the story.#The notes I have are for scenes I did not draw:#I still think a lot about the symbolism of food in both consumption and giving - especially in regards to the Yunmeng Trio.#Prior to JC leaving we see WWX out buying food for him. Something that initially falls through as JC runs back to Lotus Pier.#But here it comes back full circle. WWX gives away a part of himself to be 'consumed' by Jiang Cheng.#It is about being led by desire (JC wanting revenge to losing his will to live to wanting his core back)#and about being bound by duty to do whatever it takes to see those desires through to the end.#JC can't eat until he has his desire to live back. WWX carves out his own ambitions to help another reach theirs.#And it isn't held up as noble! Not even once! He is routinely punished and criticized for this sacrifice.#Being thrown into the burial mounds really is just symbolism for how we can give away every scrap of ourselves to others-#-and find ourselves at rock bottom. Alone.#When you hollow yourself out it just leaves room for something else to fill it. Something worse.

I'm a little bit insane about how in novel canon the whole xiyao ending where Jin Guangyao wants to die with Xichen, who accepts, which then makes jgy change his mind and pushes him away at the last second isn't actually explicit. A lot of adaptations chose to make it so but in the novel this is all VERY up for interpretation.
Here's what actually happens in the text: Lan xichen stabs jgy, jgy moves away from lan xichen, xichen follows him, wwx realizes jgy is about to open the coffin and calls "watch out!" to lan xichen. Jgy unseals nmj, pushes xichen away, nmj kills jgy and they are both dragged into the coffin which is sealed again.
Here's what wei wuxian, our narrator, thinks is happening: Jin Guangyao wanted to lead lan xichen to his death out of revenge for stabbing him. Lan Xichen, unaware, simply followed Jin Guangyao to try and stop him from getting away. Wei wuxian's warning came too late, but Jin Guangyao- for an unknown reason- changed his mind at the last second and pushed lan xichen out of danger before lan xichen had any idea of what was going on.
Here's what most fans as well as the teams behind several adpatations think is happening: Jin Guangyao leads Xichen to nmj's coffin to die with him, Xichen accepts, because of this acceptance, proof xichen still cares for him, Jin Guangyao pushes him out of harm's way. Wei Wuxian just doesn't get that gay people who aren't him or Lan Wangji exist.
Here's what ALSO MIGHT BE HAPPENING: Jin guangyao wants to die in a different way than he is currently dying. Maybe he's afraid of what'll happen to his body after his death like he was scared for his mother's, maybe he wants to confront nmj one last time now that there's nothing more for him to lose, maybe - if he can't take her body with him- he'd at least like his final resting place to be where he buried his mother. Lan Xichen thinks he's trying to get away and follows but Jin Guangyao, who despite everything doesn't want him to die, pushes him away. Xichen doesn't know what happened until it's already happened. What he would've wanted if he had known remains up in the air.
Or, alternatively: Jin Guangyao's reasons are as above, but unbeknowst to Wei Wuxian, Xichen DOES know what jgy is about to do and either misinterprets this as an invitation to all die together, or inidividually decides he, too, is done, and wants to join his sworn brothers in the grave. To Jin Guangyao this has nothing to do with Lan Xichen, and he still doesn't want him to die, so he pushes him away against Lan Xichen's wishes.
Every single one of these interpretations is unhinged and they are all supported by the original text. It's like a choose your own adventure of tragic gay endings.
#mdzs#mdzs meta#meng yao#jin guangyao#lan xichen#nie mingjue#3zun#xiyao#rs: i wish it could've been you#honestly which is worse for xichen. Being denied his wish explicitly or only realizing he wanted it after it'd already been denied for him#OR genuinely not wanting to die but being forced to live with the fact that even after he essentially killed him jgy still saved his life#just another way he's in his debt#like no matter what he's not coming out of here okay#i switch between a bunch of these all the time but actually favor the last 2 because they're very underexplored in my opinion#I like it when 'i never even thought about hurting you' remains true to the bitter end. He never even considered it#also I just... have a lot of feelings about that being his mom's coffin#do you remember that in the novel the coffin was so heavy only sect leaders could bear the weight?#so for the burial a group of sect leaders had to be the pallbearers... the SYMBOLISM GUYS!! THE SYMBOLISM!#jgy dies in infamy but despite everything it's the highest of cultivation society who carry the coffin he's buried in#he's in the same coffin as a great sect leader!! As nmj!! After a whole life fighting an uphill battle finally in death they are equal#it's not justice and it's not fair but it's... something#wwx's interpretation is the one i favour the least. sorry bro you remain an unreliable narrator to me.#it feels rather uncharitable towards jgy which makes sense for wwx's pov but makes it not my favorite#there's an alternative version of that intepretation where jgy THINKS he's doing the coffin trio pact and thinks xichen accepts.#and has the same realization of oh no he still cares I don't want him to die and pushes lxc away#meanwhile lan xichen hasn't actually processed any of this because it all happened in about 0.4 seconds#i like that one slightly more but it's still not my favorite#there's tragedy in the misunderstanding but it's a bit convoluted.
